However, you must be able to read, analyse and comprehend, printed information in English, and to write statements and solve problems to complete the course. You must also have reliable access to a computer and a reliable internet connection and have basic computer skills.

The Certificate in Aged Care has been constructed to be a pathway course to a Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing). We have designed a pathway course that offers students an opportunity to gain knowledge and skills fundamental to the Aged Care Sector. The full mapping summary can be provided to students to share with other education providers should they wish to continue in future studies.

Course Outline

Students will undertake 7 Key Modules, made up of 15 subjects.

Certificate 1: Aged Care Career Sampler

This certificate is the perfect first step and introduction to what it’s like to work in aged care, providing you the skills and knowledge you need to inspire and support the elderly in various roles.

Certificate 2: Working in Aged Care Certificate

This comprehensive certificate will explore how ageing impacts us physically and psychologically and how you can support older people within aged care services. You will learn how to work effectively with older people, explore strategies to counsel an elderly person who has been diagnosed with an illness, and gain a better understanding of ways to deal with deteriorating health issues, including supporting people living with dementia.

Certificate 3: Aged Care Advanced Certificate

This advanced certificate will deliver a deeper dive into aged care and teach you how to give care in a home setting, in a community or in a registered home care facility. You will learn how to create a healthy, empowering environment across all levels of need for the elderly, while also gaining a strong understanding of the legal and ethical frameworks carers work within. It teaches you how to understand healthy body systems, and it helps you learn about the workplace health and safety practices with which you’ll need to comply while on the job.

Certificate 4: Looking After the Elderly Certificate

Whether you’re currently working in the aged care industry and want to upgrade your skills, want to get into the industry, or currently looking after your elderly parents or grandparents, this certificate will provide you with effective and practical knowledge to ensure you can feel informed and confident.

Certificate 5: Provide Support to People Living with Dementia Certificate

With so many elderly living with dementia, this important certificate is designed to teach you proven ways to best care for clients, or ageing family and friends who are suffering from dementia. You will learn how to improve soft skills like communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution.

Certificate 6: Support Ageing People with Disabilities

People who are ageing with a disability often require access to both disability and aged care services. This certificate is a solid introduction to how best to care for the elderly who are living with a disability, whether it be clients in an aged care facility, or elderly family members.

Certificate 7: Working Effectively in the Community Sector

This certificate provides you with the knowledge and skills to provide ethical support while addressing the needs of elderly people in your home, workplace or community. Learn how ageing impacts us physically and psychologically, and how you can support older people with counselling and aged care services.

Assessment

Assessments are an important part of your study journey as they help ensure you stay on track and meet the learning objectives of each lesson before moving onto the next. They also help your student support advisor and mentors identify where any further support may be required, so that you get the most out of your course. You will learn via various methods; a combination of reading, undertaking research and watching videos. Assessments might include case studies, quizzes, and written assessments.
