Course Outline

Students will undertake five key modules made up of 52 lessons.

Module 1: Animal Grooming  (100 Hours)

This module is designed to teach you how to groom farm animals or pets for better animal health and wellbeing, or for competitive pet grooming and exhibition level animals. You will learn the basics from how to handle animals, how best to care for an animal’s skin and coat, to grooming dogs and exotic animals and preparing for a showing.

Module 2: Dog Care  (100 Hours)

A practical module  to take you through all general aspects of dog care. You will learn the science of dog care, as well as how to care for the practical daily needs of a dog. Designed to give you a solid introduction into the different ways to care for your dog, from nutrition and feeding, to exercise, health care, breeding and behaviour and training. You will learn how to provide effective care for those needs either as a dog owner or a professional working in the industry.

Module 3: Starting a Small Business  (100 Hours)

This module is designed to give you an introduction to starting your own small business. Learn how to identify risks so you can avoid problems before they overtake you, recognise your assets and liabilities and utilise your resources to best effect. From planning your new business and developing a 12-month business plan to budgeting, exploring sales methods and improving profitability, you will learn the fundamentals required to build a small business.

Module 4: Animal Healthcare  (100 Hours)

An introduction into animal healthcare, you will learn about animal first aid and how to care for the health of various types of animals. Become familiar with animal behaviours and how to recognise what is normal and what is not, to help identify signs of ill health. Learn about the facilities and procedures in a typical veterinary clinic environment, to give you a sound introduction on what to expect in these practices, from common routine health treatments to the administration of animal healthcare.

Module 5: Pet Food Business  (100 Hours)

Explore the essential aspects of the pet food business in this module, focusing on the scope and nature of animal food. Learn about the processes involved in manufacturing and preserving pet food, ensuring its quality and safety. Dive into the specifics of nutrition for various animals, including canines, felines, birds, fish, rodents, rabbits and reptiles. Gain insights into identifying toxins in animal foods and the importance of regulatory controls in the pet food industry.
