Students will undertake five key modules made up of 49 lessons.

Module 1: Landscaping I (100 Hours)

The ultimate introduction to landscaping, this module delivers the essential know-all for budding garden designers and landscape gardeners alike. Explore the fundamentals, from the history of garden design principles of design, landscape detailing, and construction. Gain a better understanding of drawing techniques and plans and learn how to create your own detailed landscape design.

This module will take you step-by-step through the design process, from pre-planning and how to prepare for landscape design to appropriate garden and plan selection, landscape features and how to use visual effects and graphic skills to bring your ideas to life for both domestic gardens and public parks.

Module 2: Landscaping II (100 Hours)

Following on from the completion of Landscaping I, this module is more heavily weighted towards individual landscape components such as specific types of plants, paths, paving, walls and garden features. Learn about landscape elements in greater detail and build your confidence to select where and how to use different types of plants.

This module will help you to determine the resources required for landscape development, including materials and equipment and identify problem areas in a landscape, including slopes and hostile environments. You will also learn how to create a landscape development plan in accordance with a client brief and in liaison with the client, an invaluable and vital skill required to be a successful landscape gardener.

Module 3: Landscaping III (Landscaping Styles) – (100 Hours)

The Landscaping III (Landscaping Styles) module offers a deep dive into various landscaping styles, perfect for aspiring garden designers and landscape gardeners. It guides students through the creation of different moods in gardens, exploring historic, formal, and Oriental styles, as well as Middle Eastern and Spanish influences. It also covers the unique aspects of Mediterranean and coastal gardens, teaching students how to blend natural elements with design.

The module then moves to modern and eclectic garden styles, focusing on contemporary aesthetics and personal expression. Students will learn about the diversity in garden design, gaining the ability to craft a wide range of landscapes, from private gardens to public spaces, with a rich understanding of cultural and historical influences.

Module 4: Natural Garden Design (100 Hours)

This module will give the students an insightful journey into the world of natural, wild, and bush gardens, ideal for aspiring garden designers. Beginning with an introduction to these styles, the module explores their history and the development of concept plans that blend with the natural environment. Students will learn about choosing the right plants and mastering planting design to create aesthetically pleasing, sustainable natural gardens.

It covers the integration of garden features like water and stone that complement the natural landscape. It concludes with a comprehensive approach to combining all these elements, equipping students with the skills to create harmonious, environmentally friendly gardens that reflect contemporary natural garden trends.

Module 5: Green Walls and Roofs (100 Hours)

This module offers an in-depth look at roof and vertical gardens, perfect for aspiring garden designers and landscape gardeners. Students will explore the construction and functionality of these innovative garden types, learning about climbing plants, structures and suitable plant choices for elevated spaces. It also emphasises the creative use of space and includes practical aspects like container growing and maintenance practices, such as watering and pest control.

Key to this module is the focus on the unique landscaping challenges and opportunities presented by roof and vertical gardens. Students will be equipped with the knowledge to design these modern, space-efficient gardens, blending aesthetics with functionality in their gardening projects.
